The results of a new analysis by the International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT) show that, when combined with a trend toward higher methane leakage and combustion slip, there is no climate benefit from using liquefied natural gas (LNG) as a marine fuel—regardless of the engine technology. First, it contains very little sulfur.

In California, Big Blue Bus (BBB) will receive $870,000 from the Mobile Source Air Pollution Reduction Review Committee’s (MSRC) Near Zero Engine Incentive Program. The ISL G NZ can operate on compressed, liquid, or renewable natural gas (RNG). In June 2015, Big Blue Bus was awarded $5.9 ISL G Near-Zero (NZ) 0.02 NO x engines.

The National Academies have released a third review of the 21 st Century Truck Partnership (21CTP); the review follows the Phase 1 and Phase 2 reviews by the National Research Council in 2008 and 2012 ( earlier post ) and assesses the progress the partnership has made. A pathway to achieve 55% is being developed.

When those amendments were adopted, it was also agreed that a review should be undertaken by 2018 in order to assess whether sufficient compliant fuel oil would be available to meet the 2020 date. That review was completed in 2016 and submitted to MEPC 70. If not, the date could be deferred to 2025.
