GM will introduce a strong hybrid version of the next-generation Malibu. Using technology from the 2016 Chevrolet Volt propulsion system ( earlier post ), Malibu Hybrid will offer an estimated combined fuel economy rating exceeding 45 mpg (5.22 2016 Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid Lithium-Ion Battery System, 1.8L Engine and Drive Unit.

Ford had previewed the small EcoBoost turbocharged gasoline direct injection unit, and had confirmed it for production, at Auto China 2010 in Beijing. Ford also said that its next generation of hybrid vehicles, including a new plug-in hybrid that will launch next year, will have a Ford-engineered transmission that will be built in Michigan.

Ford Motor Company is tripling production capacity of its electrified vehicle lineup through 2013 to more than 100,000 units, further boosting volumes of its C-MAX Hybrid and C-MAX Energi plug-in hybrid ( earlier post ), which begin production next year. This allows it to run in electric mode before using the gasoline engine.
