The research by the University of Edinburgh measured the impact of diesel exhaust fumes on healthy volunteers at levels that would be found in heavily polluted cities. The scientists had earlier shown that exposure to nitrogen dioxide, at levels in excess of those found in the present study, does not alter vascular function.
