BMW has announced the recall of more than 1,500 2009-2010 BMW X5 diesel models to correct a fuel filter heater issue. The xDrive35d models, manufactured from June 13, 2009 through November 9, 2009, could be affected by an issue that causes the filter heater to remain on and overheat.

determined that for the 12-month period beginning January 2009, when both diesel and gasoline engine options were offered as options in a car, about 30% of the registrations had diesel engines. Bosch’s analysis of Polk data shows the average percentage of registrations for cars with clean diesel engines were: Audi A3 TDI: 20%.

Audi, Volkswagen and BMW reported strong sales of diesel models in the US in December and the year. One-third of customers opted for a diesel BMW X5 model in the US in December, according to BMW NA’s December sales results report. By year-end, TDI models accounted for 43% of Audi Q7 and 53% of A3 sales.

The BMW Group has received a major order from new US law enforcement vehicle manufacturer, Carbon Motors Corp., to supply more than 240,000 diesel engines. The agreement calls for delivery of inline six-cylinder diesel engines complete with cooling and exhaust gas system and automatic transmission. Carbon Motors Corp.
