Now Autobloggreen has a report out of China involving BYD. I recalled hearing in 2005 that BYD acquired a license from Ovonics to manufacture NiMH batteries. Unfortunately the article suggest the car will be solely for the domestic Chinese market. I've long heard rumors of Chinese auto makers developing an electric car.

The company had already delivered more than 700 vehicles by the end of September, 2009 (see article ). Chinese automaker BYD may have been founded in 2003, but it wasn’t until 2008 that it garnered mainstream attention when Berkshire Hathaway, led by Warren Buffet, bought a 10 per cent stake in its parent company.

In early testing, reviewers said a plug-in electric hybrid sedan from Chinas BYD Co. But the gasoline engine in the BYD rattled and could be noisy when it kicked in, the reviewers said.
