Despite reports that global emissions of the potent greenhouse gas, HFC-23, were almost eliminated in 2017, an international team of scientists, led by the University of Bristol, has found atmospheric levels growing at record values. As a result, they reported that they had almost completely eliminated HFC-23 emissions by 2017.

At roughly 12% below 2005 levels, the US is at risk of missing its Copenhagen Accord target of a 17% reduction by the end of 2020, and is still a long way off from the 26-28% reduction by 2025 pledged under the Paris Agreement. That’s higher than the 3% gain in 2018, but lower than the 13% gains posted in 2016 and 2017.

The UK government’s Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) approved the field development plan put forward by Statoil and its co-venturers for the Mariner heavy oil field.
