The Detroit News has the alternative fuel breakdown in the president's budget request, and it isn't pretty. Bush proposes $81 million, which includes $17 million for plug-in hybrid battery grants. Plug-in hybrids and electric cars built with the best possible, most economic, available-now technology. We need cars.

Toyota Motor Sales (TMS) USA unveiled the FT-CH dedicated hybrid concept at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit. The CH stands for compact hybrid as in compact class. By far, the single most successful example of this has been the gas-electric hybrid. Eight new hybrids. —Jim Lentz.
