It is the third million-class milestone for Toyota’s hybrid lineup in the last six months that started with the announcement of worldwide Toyota Prius sales topping two million in October 2010 and overall global Toyota hybrid sales passing three million last month.

Selected by a jury of 59 automotive journalists from across Europe, the fourth-generation Yaris receives the award 21 years after the innovative first generation was named European Car of the Year in 2000, a first for Toyota. Yaris won in 2000, Prius took top honours in 2005 and now Yaris has lifted the trophy again in 2021.

The Toyota Prius has reached 200,000 units in sales in Europe after 10 years on the market there. Toyota expects global sales of the Prius to exceed two million by the autumn of 2010. The Prius was launched in 2000 to the European market. Sales there reached 100,000 in 2008 and doubled to 200,000 in two more years.

The Prius family posted 9,166 units (23.7%) in the first quarter. Of those, 4,039 were the classic Prius; 3,715 were the Prius+; and 1,412 were the Prius PHV. As we approach our global 5-million full hybrid sales milestone, the strong sales performance of our hybrid products in Europe is particularly encouraging.
