California introduces first-in-nation rules to reduce climate “super pollutants” from commercial refrigeration, air conditioning equipment

Green Car Congress

The California Air Resources Board recently approved first-in-the-nation rules to curb the impact of hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) refrigerants. HFCs are considered to be super pollutants because they trap heat in the atmosphere thousands of times more effectively than carbon dioxide, the most prevalent greenhouse gas.

Study: consumer products overtake transportation as largest source of VOCs air pollution in cities

Green Car Congress

Thus, it is important to identify and quantify the most important human-produced sources of VOC emissions to effectively mitigate air pollution and improve human health, the authors said. Even so, lotions, paints and other products contribute about as much to air pollution as does the transportation sector. McDonald, Joost A.

US DOE, Natural Resources Canada open pilot plant to advance oxy-combustion carbon capture at coal-fired power plants

Green Car Congress

The US Department of Energy (DOE) and Canada’s Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) opened a new 1 Megawatt thermal (MW th ) facility to test an advanced process to capture CO 2 emissions from coal-fired power plants. The captured CO 2 can then be stored or used beneficially to develop other products, including feedstock and chemicals.
