The top two vendors of hybrids in the US, Toyota and Ford, each reported strong gains in hybrid sales in March 2010 year-on-year. Toyota saw its overall hybrid sales grow 21.6% Honda, however, reported a decrease in hybrid sales of 22.2% Honda, however, reported a decrease in hybrid sales of 22.2% from March 2009.

It also had an upshift light (located in the lower right corner of the cluster) to remind drivers that fuel economy was more important than brisk acceleration. The Sprint ER shouldn't be compared to modern hybrids or EVs, though.

US sales of hybrids in March 2009 as reported by the automakers dropped 44% by volume year-on-year to 21,433 units; that performance was worse than the total light duty vehicle market, which posted a 36.8% Sales of the Toyota Prius were off 56.8% Hybrid sales as a percentage of total light duty vehicle sales by automaker.

In the aftermath of the summer sales boom fueled by the US Cash for Clunkers program, September 2009 light duty vehicles sales dropped back to pre-incentive lows. With 745,997 cars and light duty trucks sold in September, according to Autodata, sales were down 22.7% Honda hybrid sales dropped 6% year-on-year to 1,898 units.
