The US Department of Energy (DOE) has awarded a 5-year, $16-million grant to the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center, one of the world’s largest independent plant science institutes. It is among the most efficient crops in conversion of solar energy and use of water, making it an ideal crop to target for improvement.

Xcel Energy has released the preliminary results from its wind-to-battery (W2B) storage project in Minnesota, and termed the technology successful. Results also indicate that this technology may be applicable for solar energy. The project received a $1 million grant from Xcel Energy’s Renewable Development Fund.
