And one on Google's map. The units I found quite accidentally are Free Juice Bar dual-connector units. Free Juice Bar, as the name implies, dispenses electricity to cars without networks to join, credit cards to wave, or phone calls to release the precious, if not dear, electrons. Good for them.

As we try to rev up plug-in vehicle sales, what sort of charging infrastructure should we be focusing on? Given the distance most commuters travel, charging at level 1 at work enables most drivers to get back all the juice expended getting to work. How could we use the logic of workplace charging to buck up plug-in car sales?

Although Tesla gets the headlines (and stock price boost), Nissan and Chevrolet make the sales. Plug-in vehicle sales are indeed increasing, with the LEAF and Volt each selling about 2500 units in June 2013. Simple access to power while at work is a tremendous additional incentive for PEV sales of these lower-range cars.

We chatted up with Jayasuriya, the state head of TML for Electric Vehicle sales. Followed Google Maps to hit Hosur road - and from then on the Maps was switched off. We switched on Google Maps and left for Ooty. Jayram works with Google and has been staying at Seattle for two decades before that. That is quite neat.

Millions of EVs and PHEVs would expand the sale of electricity as an alternative to oil. So while my car is powering the great city during the day how will I have juice to drive home at the end of the day?
