A new analysis of the real-world usage of more than 100,000 plug-in hybrid electric vehicles shows a large deviation between on-road CO 2 emissions and fuel efficiency and the official vehicle type-approval values. The real-world share of electric driving for PHEVs, on average, is about half the share considered in the type-approval values.

If we didn’t have enough hurdles to electric vehicle adoption in the US, one of the challenges that drives me absolutely bonkers is the confusing and inconsistent use of charging terminology. To scale up EV adoption we need to increase consumer awareness and understanding of the “electric refueling” process. But nobody else cares. .

However, details by powertrain highlights that only pure electric cars (BEV) and plug-in hybrids (PHEV) drove this growth, as hybrids posted a decline of 11%. The new arrivals like the Mini electric, Peugeot 208-e, MG ZS and others accounted for 17% of all BEV registrations.
