Volvo Trucks is delivering 20 fully electric heavy trucks to the logistics company DFDS in Gothenburg, Sweden. The delivery is part of a total order for 125 electric trucks that DFDS has placed with Volvo. Volvo Trucks’ global target is that in 2030, 50% of all new trucks it sells will be electric.

Volvo Trucks and Bucher Municipal have now entered into a collaboration to electrify sewer cleaner trucks. By the end of 2023, Bucher Municipal expects to deliver up to 80 fully electric sewer cleaner trucks to cities in Europe. Volvo Trucks goal is that electric models will account for half of its truck sales in 2030.

Volvo Cars is tripling electric car manufacturing capacity at its plant in Ghent, Belgium as it prepares to meet fast growing demand for its Recharge line-up of chargeable cars. Ghent is currently preparing to take a second fully electric Volvo model, based on the CMA modular vehicle architecture, into production later this year.

The sales growth was led by the company’s Recharge line up of fully electric and plug-in hybrid cars. China sales reached 13,066 cars, up 50% compared with February last year.

Volvo Car Group intends to establish a joint venture with Swedish battery company Northvolt to develop and produce more sustainable batteries, tailored to power the next generation of pure electric Volvo and Polestar cars. Production is scheduled to start in 2026. The location of the new plant is yet to be decided.
