Cadillac will add a Plug-In Hybrid Electric (PHEV) propulsion system to its upcoming range-topping CT6 sedan, to be manufactured at the new Shanghai GM Cadillac plant, Pudong Jinqiao, China. The new PHEV version of the CT6 will be capable of greater than 60 km (32.4 ELR is not offered in the Chinese market.).

The day was split between a morning session at the GM tech center in Warren and an afternoon session at the GM proving grounds in Milford, MI. GM posted sales of 4,244 Volt extended range electric vehicles in the US in the second quarter, representing an 8.4% Honda sold 46 units of the battery-electric Fit in Q1, and 45 units of the Accord PHEV plug-in hybrid. Of that figure, Tesla had about a 27% share, GM a 24% share, Nissan a 20% share and Toyota a 14% share.

Main power comes from a 200 kW (peak) Lithium-ion battery pack that offers an emission-free range of 80.5 turbocharged Direct Injection gasoline engine sourced from GM ( earlier post ) provides the motors with electricity. Total range is 482 km (300 mi).
