BMW i announced a home stationary energy storage system solution integrating its BMW i3 vehicle battery at EVS 29 in Montréal. The battery storage system also includes a voltage converter and power electronics to manage the energy flow between renewable energy sources, the house interface, and the Li-Ion high-voltage battery from the BMW i3.

Transmission system operator TenneT and Daimler AG, through its wholly owned subsidiary Mercedes-Benz Energy GmbH, have researched and tested the feasibility of innovative system services in the transmission grid as part of a joint development partnership. This means they can replace the inert masses in large-scale power plants.

An EV battery doesn’t look much different from the one you have currently powering your smartphone. An EV doesn’t use only one Li-ion (lithium-ion) battery, though. While on the road, the motor turns this alteration into power. Li-ion batteries have been around since 1991, but only in 2008 were applied to cars.

BMW Group and Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) concerning a mid-to-long-term collaboration on next-generation environment-friendly technologies. Under the MOU, the two companies will collaborate on research in the field of next-generation lithium-ion battery cell technologies.
