Media days at the Detroit Auto Show two weeks ago contained relatively little new from Ford Motor Company. Media reports that Ford and Google would jointly announce a major self-driving car. A lightly updated 2017 Ford Fusion mid-size sedan emerged, as did an F-150 Raptor SuperCrew performance pickup truck.

This week Google and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles announced that the Silicon Valley giant would use the Detroit automaker's 2017 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid minivans for its self-driving car research. It's the season of autonomous-car announcements, apparently.

Henry Ford’s history of working with Thomas Edison dates back to the late 1800s, when Ford worked for the Edison Illuminating Company in Detroit. In 1892, Edison co-founded General Electric.

The Detroit News Autos Insider column today is reporting on Congressional efforts to promote plug-in hybrids and the backlash from the automakers. Neither CARB incentives nor the efforts of Plug-in Partners have moved the auto makers to produce plug-in hybrids, so conversion efforts are moving along.
