Among the many provisions of the bill is the revamping of the federal EV tax credit to require, among many other things, an MSRP of less than $55,000 for cars and $80,000 for SUVs and trucks. Once the bill becomes law, the Lucid Air—with an MSRP of $87,400—will no longer qualify for this federal tax credit.

The provision that’s gotten the most press is a redesign of the federal EV tax credit—that’s only natural, because it’s the policy that’s most likely to directly affect the average consumer, and because politicians love to talk about tax breaks. The revamped tax credit scheme is clearly a great improvement over its predecessor.

Fisker revealed its Fisker Ocean electric SUV at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The base Fisker Ocean Sport trim level is priced at $37,499, before federal and state tax credits. The Fisker Ocean was designed to be a true SUV, Henrik Fisker said, rather than yet another aerodynamic all-electric hatchback.
