A recent study by Science of the Total Environment found that DOE is the most productive organization in the world in the carbon capture and storage field. These types of projects have the potential to take advantage of the 45Q tax credit, which provides a tax credit for each ton of CO 2 sequestered or utilized.

As of 2010, biofuel production was contingent on subsidies, tax credits, the import tariff, loan guarantees, RFS2, and similar policies. Dedicated energy crops will have to be grown to meet the mandate, which will probably require conversion of uncultivated land or the displacement of commodity crops and pastures.
