Well I'm finally going to get around to installing a WarP-Drive 160/1000 motor controller package in our 97 S10 EV conversion. Our EV Solutions 97 S10 EV conversion was originally completed in the Spring of 2007. The WarP-Drive Interface Unit easily connects to the controller though the CAN bus using a common Cat5 network cable.

I pre-laid out these batteries on the floor to guestimate what the connections between the terminals were. I've got an e-mail into ElectroAuto for some connection diagrams, but haven't received the files yet. A modification of the prior strap is basically what is suggested in the DC kit instructions. We're getting closer.

They provided an upgrade kit with lock washers and loctite to remedy the problem. I had already installed the motor in the 914 and chose to not perform the upgrade due to the hassle of removing the motor. Here are the pieces for the upgrade kit above one of the motor bolts. Here's the back end of the transmission/motor.

Currently, ZF is working on an entire, modular front-transverse kit which can also be used with hybrid variants. If this basic technology is to be adapted to vehicles or special installation cases, it is offered as a “Customized” range. The control arm from ZF’s Car Chassis Technology division requires no rivets or screw connections.

Many months ago, I installed a PakTrakr ( www.paktrakr.com ) to monitor the state of my batteries and it's been acting rather flakey. The PakTrakr consists of several serially connect "remotes" which drive a "display" unit in the driver compartment. We'll see what this year has in store. Cheers, Tim.

After studying the AC kit diagrams and reading the motor controller documentation from Azure Dynamics, I think I understand a little better what all these relays and terminal strips are for. To allow enough room for wire connections and put the pieces in roughly the right place, I had to angle some of them. I think that's it for today.

Next up is installing the auxiliary battery. I suspect I hooked up something wrong and will reverse engineer the connections next. Also, the instructions for the DC kit may not apply to the AC kit. Here's where the real fun begins since there are no wiring diagrams from Electro Automotive for the AC kit yet!

Here are the negative high-voltage connections. The dangling white and green wire go to the ammeter shunt and the dangling black wire I think is not used in the AC kit. WARNING: Step XXVI in the DC instructions doesn't really apply to the AC system as many of the connections are much different. The moment of truth!

One of the other 914 kit converters questioned why the accessory battery couldn't stay in the original tray, but I decided to remove it anyway and have the accessory battery up in the front trunk near the DC/DC converter. When the driver presses the horn button, it actually connects the ground terminal to the horn.

You can see the pins that were previously installed by Electro Auto. The original kit doesn't use the red light and the green light is simply grounded. After making the test circuit, I took a breadboard from Radio Shack and soldered all the components together with some quick-connect solder connectors. digital logic outputs.

I must love doing this conversion. I received an updated wiring diagram for the AC kit from ElectroAuto, and, much to my disappointment, many of the connections went between the battery caps. The updated low-voltage wiring diagram shows different connections in the front compartment.

There is decent fast charging infrastructure being installed by many charge point operators. My charge point connected to my meter.

April 10, 2009 11:21 am Link Kaare- Lithium Ion batteries do not contain lead (unless it is in solder connections) and do not contain acid. In most conversions cost is about the same because of needless weight. None of the new electric cars are planning to use old-tech lead acid batteries. Lead batts are around 98% recycled.
