The Mountain Census states – Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming – reported a smaller reduction of 2%. Wind generation from August through December, however, was 2.4% higher than during the same period in 2022.

The RCPs were chosen to represent a broad range of climate outcomes, based on a literature review. These gases come from human activities such as combustion of coal and oil as well as natural sources such as emissions from plants. The RCP 8.5 Ozone pollution also damages crops and other plants.

The Colorado, Utah and California basins combined produce less than 3% of all US natural gas—much less than the eastern basins.
