Climate change is a global societal crisis that is causing devastating consequences. More than half the world’s people live in urban areas, yet only 12 percent of cities achieve WHO guidelines for air quality.

The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued final New Source Performance Standards (NSPS) to reduce emissions of methane-rich landfill gas from new, modified and reconstructed municipal solid waste (MSW) landfills, updating standards that were issued in 1996. Currently, methane’s effect on climate change are also of concern.
