We, and every other car reviewer with a basic grasp of the market, knew this fee for a small EV with paltry 200km (WLTP) range was laughable. To my mind, with 1700km showing, it’s still a new car, with the only obvious negative being Mazda’s five year warranty having ticked over two years already. Ergo, very few sold.

It’s no small thing, shifting a car from front- to rear-wheel-drive. Boon for buyers of the new RWD Long Range is its larger battery can charge up to 205kW rather than the entry-level’s 135kW. For DC charging, that sees a 10-80% boost drop from 34 minutes to 28 minutes. Really, it should always have been this way.
