That car was the 2007 Saturn Vue Green Line, and I managed to find one in a Denver-area car graveyard recently. Ford launched the Escape Hybrid as a 2005 model (its Mercury Mariner and Mazda Tribute siblings showed up a bit later), so The General had some catching up to do in the green-car department.

General Motors issued a short statement announcing that it is proceeding to the next step with respect to the sale of Saturn. A number of potential buyers have surfaced and expressed interest in the Saturn brand and retailer network. GM declined to comment on the prospects for a Fiat-GM Europe tie up.

GM today announced two contracts to "design and test lithium-ion batteries" for use in the Saturn Vue Plug-in Hybrid announced last month at the LA Auto Show. According to the press release, two variants of Lithium batteries will be "evaluated in prototype Saturn Vue Green Line plug-in hybrids beginning later this year."

Meanwhile, GM has decided to replace the ignition switch in all model years of its Chevrolet Cobalt, HHR, Pontiac G5, Solstice and Saturn Ion and Sky in the US, since faulty switches may have been used to repair the vehicles. About 95,000 faulty switches were sold to dealers and aftermarket wholesalers.

Having already taken the decision to close its Pontiac brand, General Motors has now announced that it will proceed with the sale of Saturn. Annual sales for the group would be roughly at six million cars and trucks making it one of the top three automotive groups in the world.
