Both houses of the Washington state legislature have passed SB 5811 , the ZEV mandate bill. This will result in the entire West Coast—from California to British Columbia—having a ZEV mandate. Washington originally adopted the California emissions standards in 2005—but without the ZEV mandate.

The Washington state legislature held a public hearing on Clean Cars 2030, a bill reintroduced with 27 co-sponsors. The bill, HB 1204 / SB 5256 , requires all model year 2030 or later passenger and light-duty vehicles sold in Washington State to be electric.

Washington state is considering mandating Tesla’s North American Charging Standard (NACS), following in Texas’ footsteps. Several other EV charging companies revealed Tesla-compatible charging stalls at the 36th Electric Vehicle Symposium and Exposition in Sacramento, California. Now Washington State might do the same.

California accounts for nearly all renewable diesel consumption in the United States, but most of it isn’t made in the state, according to the US Energy Information Administration (EIA). More than eight times the renewable diesel was consumed in California than was produced there in 2021.

A new study from the University of California (UC) Berkeley shows a steady, albeit modest, decline in carbon emissions with increased electric vehicle (EV) adoption over the last few years. California made up a third of all U.S. percent annual reduction would be enough to reach California’s 2045 carbon neutrality target.

Washington State has passed a bill setting the most aggressive timeline for phasing out sales of new gasoline vehicles in the United States, aiming to accomplish that by the 2030 model year. That's substantially earlier than the 2035-calendar-year target set by California Governor Gavin Newsom in an executive order last year.

The Advanced Clean Trucks (ACT) rule requires the sale of at least 30% zero-emission trucks by 2030; the HDV Omnibus rule requires a 90% reduction in NO x emissions from Model Year 2027 engines; and the California Phase 2 greenhouse gas rule sets standards to improve the efficiency of tractor-trailers.
