The European Union appears to be undergoing a transition from the testing of and experimentation with electric vehicles to full-scale EV commercialization, according to a new report from the EU’s Joint Research Center (JRC). Registrations of BEV and PHEV in the EU from 2010 to 2014. 67,300 PHEV and REV. 12,613 diesel PHEV.

Broadly, Navigant expects expansion in both the higher end of the market (thereby putting competitive pressure on Tesla Motors), as Audi, BMW, Cadillac, Mercedes, Saab, and Volvo introduce their first plug-in cars. Automakers are also launching their own carsharing programs (BMW, Daimler, etc.). Tesla Motors will have a bumpy year.
