at the BMW Group site in Dingolfing is operating an electrically heated ring hearth furnace. Compared with its conventional gas-powered equivalent, the latest electric furnace currently saves some 300 tonnes of CO 2 a year. For the future, we are looking into converting the remaining hardening furnaces to electricity as well.

According to a new study published by the ifo Institue Center for Economic Studies (CESifo) in Germany, EVs will barely help cut CO 2 emissions in the country over the coming years, as the introduction of electric vehicles does not necessarily lead to a reduction in CO 2 emissions from road traffic given the current power generation mix.

The further decarbonization of shipping will result in substantial CO 2 reductions, with the use of liquid natural gas enabling Volkswagen to cut the ships’ CO 2 emissions by up to 25% percent (tank-to-wake). The Volkswagen Group has therefore committed to e-mobility as well as to the sustainable production and use of new electric vehicles.

Now five fully electric-powered eCitaro buses are following. Using solid-state batteries, the buses have a battery capacity of 441 kWh. BSAG wants to achieve 50% climate-neutral operations by 2025. The electricity used is already coming from hydroelectric and wind power. BSAG also ordered 24 Citaro G hybrid buses.

DHL will roll out a new fleet of 63 electric delivery vans that will serve US markets. The fleet of 63 NGEN-1000 electric delivery cargo vans are produced by equipment manufacturer Workhorse Group. 100 miles all-electric range. DHL will roll out the first 30 NGEN-1000 electric delivery cargo vans in the San Francisco Bay Area.
