Chemical reactor company INERATEC , a spinoff of Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), and the Spanish company GAS NATURAL FENOSA have built a plant in Spain that produces synthetic natural gas from CO 2 and renewable hydrogen. The renewable gas can be stored in the existing gas infrastructure and transported to areas all over Spain.

The project will reduce the volumes of coal needed in the iron ore reduction process, thereby cutting CO2 emissions. In due course it will enable green hydrogen to be injected into the blast furnace as it becomes available.
