With over 70 percent of India’s power generation currently coming from coal, Maruti Suzuki believes hybrid technology is cleaner than electric vehicles from a well-to-wheel perspective and will be relevant in the interim to lower the country’s transportation emissions.

But I can’t help thinking that this technology will make the current crop of hybrids like the Toyota Prius and Ford Escape look like Ford Excursions. The Volt , provided GM can get the lithium battery right , will go about 40 miles on an electric charge.
