In 2023, 26% of new cars sold in France were battery electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles, a huge 47% jump from 2022. According to French auto industry group Plateforme automobile and reported by RFI , 26% of new cars sold in France were battery electric or plug-in hybrid vehicles, amounting to 1,774,729 new cars.

And I’m one those million since they’re counting plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) as well as full battery electrics. California’s plug-in vehicle sales tally is impressive: 663,014 battery electrics (62.9%). 379,125 plug-in hybrids (26%). California’s the First State to Hit One Million EVs. Still turning in max EV miles.

As they noted in announcing this year’s revolutionary list, this is “more about charting where the automotive powertrain world is going, not where it’s been.”. The list of powertrains (note we can’t say engines anymore) was fairly exhaustive—39 vehicles were evaluated with 18 of those electrified models. Down to 10. Hyundai Kona BEV.

The list of electric vehicles that qualify for the federal tax credit shrunk from 35 to 14, according to the US Department of Energy. However, some automakers have indicated that they will make the necessary changes to their pricing, sourcing, or manufacturing in the coming year to place some models back on the list.

As part of its report on fourth quarter and year-end 2008 results, Ener1 outlined its EnerDel unit’s customer programs underway for its lithium-ion battery technology in applications spanning hybrids, plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) and full electric vehicles. Overall, Ener1 reported 2008 revenues of $6.8 million compared to $280,000 in 2007.

The list of safety systems is quite extensive; the proprietary safety system utilizes radar, ultrasonic sensors and cameras. As with all battery electric vehicles, expect three plug-in options plus regenerative braking to fill the battery. The actual number will be determined if you live in a sunny area and park outside all day.
