EPA Region 10 has issued final air quality permits to Shell for oil and gas exploration drilling in the Alaska Arctic. EPA Region 10 issued similar OCS/PSD air permits to Shell in 2010. EPA Region 10 revised the permits to address the issues raised by the Board. Public comment on the draft permit closed 6 Sept.

A coalition of environmental groups has filed a lawsuit challenging what it called the US Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) failure to address greenhouse gas emissions from ocean-going ships, aircraft and nonroad vehicles and engines used in industrial operations. The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released two additional draft air quality permits for Shell Oil Company and ConocoPhillips Company exploratory oil drilling operations in the Alaska Arctic Outer Continental Shelf. Final permits will be issued after public comments are reviewed and considered.
