Developing technology to address the causes of climate change, mitigate its impact, and adapt to the crisis is one of IEEE’s top priorities. To assist with that effort, the IEEE Young Professionals group this year launched its Climate and Sustainability Task Force. On 12 September, CSTF and IRENA presented a Youth Day event.

It has given me the opportunity to speak at more than 200 IEEE events, where I have had the pleasure of engaging with academics, young professionals, and midcareer engineers in industry and government, some of whom are women and underrepresented minorities. Today the world faces its largest modern-day threat: climate change.

However, the researchers found that the greatest resource risk is due to international trade, mainly from remote countries. A drought, flood or any severe weather event in another country puts these food imports at risk.
