Total European Union greenhouse gas emissions increased by 0.5% in 2015—the first annual increase since 2010— according to new European Environment Agency (EEA) data. Road transport emissions—about 20% of total EU greenhouse gas emissions—increased for the second year in a row in 2015, by 1.6%.

Mercedes-Benz to showcase pre-production version of coming GLC F-Cell fuel cell PHEV at IAA

Mercedes-Benz has already gathered experience with hydrogen-powered electric vehicles over several vehicle generations. The fuel cell experts have used about 200 tonnes of hydrogen in their developments tests since 2015. The only exhaust gas emitted was water vapor—1800 tonnes of it in all.

New cars sold in Europe in 2011 were 3.3% more fuel efficient than those sold in 2010; increasing diesel uptake

In order to cut greenhouse gas emissions from transport, carmakers have a collective target for the average car sold in the EU to emit a maximum of 130g CO 2 /km by 2015 and 95g CO 2 /km by 2020. Last year the EEA reported that manufacturers had some distance to go to meet the 2015 target.
