The number of registered EVs surpassed 100,000 in May 2013, leaving much ground to be covered before the target is met. The automobile industry has said that without additional government subsidies they can only sell 600,000 electric cars by 2020 at best. Denmark has a goal of 200,000 EVs by 2020, recently reduced from 400,000.
