GM Europe staged the world premieres of the Opel Ampera, the European cousin of the Chevrolet Volt, and the Chevrolet Spark mini-car, at the Geneva Motor Show. The Ampera goes on sale in Europe in 2011, the Spark in early 2010. More than 220 lithium-ion cells in the T-shaped pack provide power. The Opel Ampera.

In an online blog, General Motors’ (GM) vice chairman Tom Stephens stated that the company will apply plug-in hybrid technology to one of its four core brands followings its’ restructuring. GM is planning initial delivery of plug-in hybrid vehicles for use in fleets to the DOE and EPRI in 2011.

But the battery-powered two-wheelers get separate showrooms, sales methodologies and marketing programs aimed at different target audience. GM is bringing back the Hummer brand as an EV within the GMC brand. This behemoth will be super powerful and long range–and will be expensive too. I’m hoping for the latter.
