As it bids to break even at a US total industry sales volume of approximately 10 million vehicles, General Motors has updated its Viability Plan which will deepen the cuts in its operations. The significant changes outlined in the plan include: - A focus on four core brands in the US - Chevrolet, Cadillac, Buick and GMC.

General Motors. GMC sales increased 8%, led by Sierra, Canyon and Yukon XL. Toyota Motor Sales, USA (TMS) reported July sales of 174,872, down 11.4% over July 2008. over July 2008. American Honda Motor Co., compared to July 2008 results. Jeep Compass sales were up 95% (2,727 units) versus July 2008.

General Motors said that 52% of its worldwide facilities are now landfill-free; i.e., all waste generated from normal operations is reused, recycled or converted to energy. Plastic caps and shipping aids from the Fort Wayne facility are converted into radiator shrouds for the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups built at the plant.

In an online blog, General Motors’ (GM) vice chairman Tom Stephens stated that the company will apply plug-in hybrid technology to one of its four core brands followings its’ restructuring. The company will be divided into Chevrolet, Cadillac, GMC and Buick following the decision to close Pontiac and sell Saturn.
