EIA: US energy-related CO2 fell by 2.8% in 2019, slightly below 2017 levels

Green Car Congress

Overall, US energy-related CO 2 emissions have fallen 15% from their peak of 6,003 MMmt in 2007. The United States now emits less CO 2 from coal than from motor gasoline. Nearly all of the change in CO 2 emissions in 2019 arose in the electric power sector.

Black carbon is a much larger cause of climate change than previously assessed; about twice previous estimates, and 2/3 the effect of CO2

Green Car Congress

The report’s best estimate of direct climate influence by black carbon is about a factor of two higher than most previous work. This includes the estimates in the 2007 Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Assessment, which were based on the best available evidence and analysis at that time.

EIA: CO2 emissions from US power sector have declined 28% since 2005

Green Car Congress

In the United States, most of the changes in energy-related CO 2 emissions have been in the power sector. Over the ten-year-period from 2007 top 2017, the average price of electricity to residential consumers increased 21%—from 10.65¢/kWh to 12.89¢/kWh, according to the EIA.

New phase of globalization could undermine efforts to reduce CO2 emissions

Green Car Congress

The study, involving researchers from the University of East Anglia (UEA) and colleagues in China and the United States, investigated how complex supply chains are distributing energy-intensive industries and their CO 2 emissions throughout the global South. The paper is published in Nature Communications. —Prof Guan.

PBL/JRC: Global CO2 emissions increase to new all-time record in 2013, but growth is slowing down

Green Car Congress

Global CO 2 emissions from fossil fuel use and cement production reached a new all-time high in 2013, according to the annual report “Trends in global CO2 emissions”, released by PBL Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency and the European Joint Research Centre (JRC). It is still less than half than those of the United States of 16.6

Commercial aircraft emissions continued to fall, having decreased 18% since 2007. The Inventory of US Greenhouse Gas Emissions and Sinks: 1990-2011 is the latest annual report that the United States has submitted to the Secretariat of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change since it was ratified by the United States in 1992.
