Ten years ago, your choice of hybrid vehicles was pretty limited. A lot has changed in those ten years, and the rise of Ford as a real force in the hybrid markets is one of the biggest changes. 2004 saw the launch of its very first hybrid, the 2005 Escape Hybrid, and the maker''s cars have gone from strength to strength ever since.

Ford Motor Company has produced its 100,000th hybrid SUV and used the milestone to restate its commitment to ramping up production of hybrid vehicles this year. Ford began sales the Ford Escape hybrid in 2004, followed by the Mariner Hybrid in 2005.

Ford began selling hybrid vehicles in the US in the fourth quarter of 2004 with the introduction of the Escape Hybrid. Other current hybrids in the Ford US line-up are the Fusion Hybrid, the C-MAX Hybrid, and Lincoln MKZ. Taiwan and Korea, where the company offers the Mondeo Hybrid.

Since 2009, 38% of Ford’s growth has come from vehicles in this super segment, which includes Fiesta, Focus, Fusion and Escape. As recently as 2004, super segment sales were only 35% of the market. Two-thirds of all buyers shop the Escape and Fusion when they first come into a Ford dealership.
