EPA: US greenhouse gases up 2% in 2013; increased coal consumption, cool winter

By sector, power plants were the largest source of emissions, accounting for 31% of total US greenhouse gas pollution. MMT CO 2 in 2004, and since then have declined about 13%. Starting in 2005, the rate of VMT growth slowed considerably (and declined rapidly in 2008) while average new vehicle fuel economy began to increase.
