The study, “Estimating US Government Subsidies to Energy Sources: 2002-2008”, found that fossil fuels benefited from approximately $72 billion over the seven-year period, while subsidies for renewable fuels totaled $29 billion. Nuclear was not included in the analysis.

Since 2002, the average annual increase was almost 4%. In addition to high oil prices and the financial crisis, the increased use of new renewable energy sources, such as biofuels for road transport and wind energy for electricity generation, had a noticeable and mitigating impact on CO 2 emissions. Hydrogen produced by water electrolysis has the potential to be a useful means of storing excess electricity generated using wind, solar, and other intermittent renewable energy. This current technology would be more than twice as expensive as internal combustion engine systems.

Why is so much money dedicated to fossil fuels?

In some areas where wind and hydropower is wasted at night, the rate can be as low as 2-3 cents per kWh.

But its monumentally less pollution , even on the national (half-coal) grid. While other national and international organizations have been supportive at government hearings, they havent yet begun to advocate for PHEVs. How about a car-mounted wind-generator? Dont PHEVs just shift pollution from gasoline cars to power plants?
