Badlands NGL, LLC, announced the development of a North Dakota manufacturing plant that will convert ethane (C 2 H 6 ), a byproduct of natural gas processing, into polyethylene, which is used to make a wide variety of end-use consumer and industrial plastics. The North Dakota Industrial Commission has awarded Tesoro $500,000 to support a $3.5-million North Dakota made the award under its Renewable Energy Council Grant Round 33. The refinery has a capacity of 20,000 barrels per day (bpd) and primarily processes domestic crude oil from North Dakota delivered by pipeline.

The US Department of Energy’s Office of Fossil Energy (FE) and the National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) announced that the University of North Dakota has been awarded a 2-year, $1.5-million million contract to sample and characterize US coal-based resources containing high concentrations of rare earth elements (REEs).

Marathon Petroleum Corporation selected Topsoe as the technology provider for renewable fuels production at the Martinez Renewable Fuels Facility in California. The facility, part of Marathon’s 50/50 joint venture with Neste, utilizes Topsoe’s HydroFlex technology to convert bio-feedstock into renewable diesel.
