Hybrid vehicle market share (excluding plug-in hybrids) in California increased to 7% in the first half of 2013, up from 6.2% Plug-in hybrid market share was an estimated 0.7%, while battery electric vehicle market share hit 1.1%.

The North American International Auto Show in Detroit will be the setting for Toyota to debut its new Prius C. The subcompact member of the Prius family will be added to a line-up that includes the Prius Liftback hybrid vehicle; the new Prius V midsize hybrid; and the Prius Plug-in Hybrid model.

The majority of the vehicles are electric, with a small number being plug-in gasoline-electric hybrids. Toyota and EDF Energy will deploy a trial of up to 20 Toyota Plug in Hybrid Vehicles (PHV). Toyota intends to lease the vehicles to existing Toyota Prius fleet customers including a mix of public bodies and private companies.
