I love the idea of powering my car from solar power. Honda Insight, Civic and Accord use an entirely different design: the electric motor never runs without the gasoline engine running at the same time. How about putting PV cells on the roof of a PHEV? A cars rooftop surface area is too small to make a significant contribution.

E-Flex is technically a hybrid with two power units, but unlike the ToyotaPrius, Honda Insight and various Lexus models, the engine in the Volt doesnot drive the wheels, it simply acts as an emergency generator to rechargethe batteries. How far hybrids will be encouraged in the new government initiative remains tobe seen.
