Volvo Cars has published a lifecycle analysis report on its second fully electric car, the C40 Recharge, which shows the potential CO 2 reductions if a car is built and charged using clean energy sources. When charging with electricity generated through fossil fuels, that difference becomes much smaller.

The fully electric version of the XC40 SUV will now be called the EX40, while its somewhat lower-roof C40 Recharge counterpart will be called the EC40, Volvo revealed Tuesday as part of a new naming strategy for its EVs and plug-in hybrids.

The all-electric Volvo C40 Recharge is available online via volvocars.com in select markets across Europe as of this week. The propulsion system consists of twin electric motors, one on the front and one on the rear axle, powered by a 78 kWh battery that can be fast-charged to 80% in about 40 minutes.

The sales growth was led by the company’s Recharge line up of fully electric and plug-in hybrid cars. Sales of Volvo Cars’ Recharge models made up 40% of all Volvo cars sold globally during the month. The share of Recharge cars reached 29% during the month, with all-electrics accounting for 11.4% (973 units).
