The Velite 5, Buick’s first extended-range electric vehicle, made its global debut in Shanghai today. It is the latest iconic product from the brand in the new energy vehicle segment, and is based on the Chevrolet Volt. The Velite 5 features GM’s proven EVT electronic controlled intelligent variable transmission.

GM is on track to deliver 10 new energy vehicle models in China between 2016 and 2020. From 2021 through 2023, GM will maintain momentum by doubling the number of new energy vehicles available. Buick recently announced plans to introduce the VELITE 6 plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, followed by the VELITE 6 electric vehicle.

GreenCarReports cites an unnamed source at GM who says that the Cadillac Converj luxury plug-in coupe ( earlier post ) is now back in the GM product plan. The extended range electric vehicle, introduced as a concept at the Detroit auto show in January 2009, was said to be slated for production ( earlier post ).
