Plug-in cars are inevitable. Nissan appears intent on opening up a market for mid-price range electric cars within two years. Veteran automakers, oil companies, and federal and state governments have been both the prime movers and obstacles to plug-in cars in the past and they remain so today. Here's my June column.

I have seen the future my friends and it looks exactly like a 76 degree January day filled with beautiful people driving gorgeous plug-in hybrid and plug-in electric cars. It looks like Mrs Greenius has found her next car! She lives in a solar powered house and drives an electric car. It is already here today.

Supporters of the car say that’s shortsighted. Electric car supporters are rising to defend General Motors’ development of the Chevy Volt after the Obama Administration’s automotive task force proclaimed that the car was probably too expensive to be commercially successful in the near future. .
