EPA recently released the latest edition of its annual report Light-Duty Automotive Technology, Carbon Dioxide Emissions and Fuel Economy Trends. The report is the authoritative reference for real-world fuel economy, technology trends and tailpipe carbon dioxide emissions, for new personal vehicles sold in the US every year since 1975.

The EPA released its annual Automotive Trends report, and findings reveal that Tesla is leading the way with the lowest tailpipe CO2 emissions and the highest fuel economy of all large manufacturers. Following Tesla, Subaru, Kida, Hyundai, Nissan, and Honda had reductions in CO2 tailpipe emissions.

The agency’s reasoning was that since alternative fuel vehicle production has generally been less than 0.1% of total vehicle production until very recently, the impact of excluding alternative fuel vehicles was negligible. In the analysis, EPA uses overall fuel economy in mpg equivalent (mpge) and tailpipe CO 2 emission values.

Tetsuro Aikawa, President and COO of Mitsubishi Motors (MMC) in Japan, and Ryugo Nakao, Executive Vice President have resigned over the fuel economy testing scandal that emerged in April.
