Electrify America announced its “Boost Plan” to more than double its current electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure in the United States and Canada, with plans to have more than 1,800 fast charging stations and 10,000 individual chargers installed by the end of 2025.

Under the proposed settlement, lodged with the US District Court for the District of Columbia, Daimler will recall and repair the emissions systems in Mercedes-Benz diesel vehicles sold in the United States between 2009 and 2016 and pay $875 million in civil penalties and roughly $70.3 million in other penalties.

To combat the problem, some cities have begun installing left-turn traffic-calming measures at their intersections. The District of Columbia began a similar effort as part of its Vision Zero program in 2018, with plans to target 85 intersections by the end of this year.

Soderholm will be installing Lightning eMotors’ fully electric powertrain systems in repowered applications in Hawaii, as well as buying new Lightning eMotors’ vans and shuttle buses. Lightning is shipping the first vehicle to Soderholm next month, and demonstration vehicles will be available in Hawaii this summer for fleets to test drive.

The project is a public-private partnership, funded in part by the US Department of Energy through a federal stimulus grant and made possible by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).

The collaboration with Walmart is part of Electrify America’s strategy to help promote greater zero emission vehicle (ZEV) adoption by offering an ultra-fast and convenient charging network. The first 120 Walmart sites with Electrify America chargers are located across 34 US.
