ABB partners with Vigor selects ABB as propulsion and energy storage partner for hybrid-electric ferries

American shipbuilding company Vigor Fab LLC has selected ABB as the hybrid-electric propulsion and energy storage system provider for the newest additions to the Washington State Ferry fleet—the largest US ferry system. The first hybrid-electric Olympic Class ferry will join Washington State Ferries’ fleet in 2024.

DOE awards $2.4M to 3 projects for next-generation grid energy storage

UPS cargo eBike pilot in Seattle

The cargo eBikes will operate in the historic Pike Place Market and downtown Seattle area on sidewalks and in designated bike lanes. While we have launched cycle logistic projects in other cities, this is the first one designed to meet a variety of urban challenges. In Washington, UPS uses 10 electric and hybrid electric vehicles.

NASA electric research plane designated the X-57, nickname: “Maxwell”; SCEPTOR

NASA will test new propulsion technology using an experimental airplane now designated the X-57 and nicknamed “Maxwell.” The X-57 features 14 electric motors turning propellers, all of them integrated into a uniquely-designed wing. NASA researchers ultimately envision a nine-passenger aircraft with a 500 kW power system in 2019.

Washington Governor and Legislators Introduce Climate Action Plan; $419M for Transportation Projects
