PAG) has terminated its discussions with General Motors Company to acquire the Saturn brand, citing concerns directly related to the future supply of vehicles beyond the supply period it had negotiated with GM. Today’s disappointing news comes at a time when we’d hoped for a successful launch of the Saturn brand into a new chapter.

GM began contacting its dealers today regarding its long term planning, and is advising approximately 1,100 “ underperforming and very small sales volume US dealers ” that GM does not see them as part of its dealer network on a long-term basis. The actual number of dealers could vary given levels of attrition, etc.

In recent years, General Motors brands Buick and Cadillac have announced that they will give dealers a buyout option if they are unwilling to sell electric vehicles. Cadillac was the first GM brand to offer dealers a buyout option if they were unwilling to invest in sales electrification and its associated investments.

As a result of new CEO Mary Barra’s request for a comprehensive internal safety review following the ignition switch recall, General Motors announced three separate recalls involving US production and sales of approximately: 303,000 Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana from the 2009-2014 model years with gross vehicle weight under 10,000 pounds.
